Procter & Gamble has voluntarily recalled some dry pet food because of a possible salmonella contamination. The recall is limited to specific dry pet food lots.
Salmonella can infect animals that eat the pet food, and there is a risk to people who handle contaminated pet foods. Infected pets may be tired and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Infected people may have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
The products include Iams dry dog foods and dry cat foods and Eukanuba dry dog foods with best-by dates from Nov. 5, 2014, to Nov. 14, 2014. A full list of recalled products can be viewed here.
Procter & Gamble says no salmonella-related illnesses have been reported, and the recall, which affects 0.1% of yearly production, is just a precaution.
Customers who have the affected food should stop using it immediately, throw it away, and call Procter & Gamble at 800-208-0172.
